Thursday, August 28, in the Morning

In a strange way, things must be feeling more normal. I went to bed last night and did not even think about updating the blog. That may be because there is little to report. J continued to work hard yesterday. His range of motion increased even more. His transfers to the wheelchair are becoming smoother as well.

The treatment team anticipates that his stay at HealthSouth will be about 2 weeks. That means that he could be home as early as next Sunday. There will be a family training tomorrow to teach us how we can help J without hurting him. We will learn how to help him get into the car, into bed, etc. Thankfully there will be few accommodations we will have to make to the house. Halcyon Homes has graciously offered to build a wheelchair ramp in the garage so that J can get into the house. The only other accommodation will be to rent a trapeze so that J can pull himself up to a sitting position in bed. There may be more I have not thought of, but I am sure we will learn very quickly what we need.

Thanks and love to you all,

Cara

Star date 82808. First officer's log: Doctor Feel Good just informed me that Captain Crunch will be out of sick bay in the very near future. The crew's morale soared at the news. Captain is dreadfully missed when the USS Mental Floss has to do battle with our evil foes. It just isn't the same blowing the lids off of the evil beings from Corona 6 and Bud Light 12. It has taken a terrible toll on the crew. When it came down to hand to hand combat many crew members lost brain cells when caught in their grip. Dr. Buffet even incurred battle injury when he stepped on some of the wreckage. He cut his heel and had to cruise on back to sick bay. Once the Captain returns we are scheduled for R & R at Starbase MargaritaVille........

It was just wonderful seeing you both yesterday. I am so thrilled that Jerry is doing so well. It was really hard to leave. We enjoyed a smoothie with Jerry and had a little toast. My heart is flooding with joy because of Jerry's successful and quick recovery. I strongly, strongly encourage everyone to make every effort possible to go see Jerry. His faith, family and friends, as well as the Combat Hogs at the 96th APS, are his life. Having visitors is very therapuetic for him. Jerry and Cara, we love you and are still lifting you up in our daily thoughts and prayers and look so forward to seeing your smiling face back at the 96th. Hang in there and May God Bless You.

Cara & family - you are all showing amazing courage and steadfast love -- learning to work together to adapt your lives! Who knew you might actually hurt J while you are trying to help him? May God's blessings be spread upon your household. Grace and peace. Cathy

The news is all so fantastic right now. A magnificent man on his flying trapeze goes home! And we know the road is long and there is much more to do--but you have come soooo far. But with co-harts like the First Officer to keep you buoyed how could you not?? Hope he keeps blogging his log.
